Topsail Island, NC is a 26 mile barrier island and waves break all along the island. Also, our waves are great for beginner surfers.
The waves on Topsail Island and Surf City generally break the cleanest and best shape, with a North, Northwest or West wind. South and Southwest winds are sideshore and often make our waves choppier and the water currents move South to North. Northeast winds force the water current South. Regardless of the wind direction, we can still have fun waves, especially if we have solid swell.
Parking is free on Topsail Island and Surf City. We are a chill beach. Just read the signs at the beach accesses and follow directions and you will have no problems.
When in doubt, stop in or call a local surf shop for the surf report.
